About Bifrost

What Bifrost is

Bifrost (Bifrost: Global social on the App Store) is a cross-border social app developed and operated by Beijing Yanwan Technology Co., Ltd. People in China and people abroad are recommended to each other by country; when both light each other up within 12 hours they are connected one-to-one and can chat, with one-tap translation of messages and posts. The app also offers a seven-day journey with shared to-dos, a discovery community, group chats, a focus timer, and the Bifrost AI assistant.

Why we built it

The two biggest social networks barely overlap. People in China are on WeChat, which has very few foreigners; the rest of the world is on Facebook, which is not accessible in mainland China. Someone in China who wants a foreign friend, and someone abroad who wants a Chinese friend, cannot find each other.

Bifrost puts both sides in one app. A mutual light-up replaces one-sided friend requests, so every connection starts with both people wanting it. One-tap translation lowers the language barrier. And a seven-day journey gives two new friends something to do together.

Where the name comes from

Bifrost comes from Bifröst, the rainbow bridge between worlds in Norse mythology. It describes what the app is for: a bridge between people of different countries, languages, and cultures.
