Bifrost FAQ

Bifrost is a cross-border social app developed and operated by Beijing Yanwan Technology Co., Ltd. (Bifrost: Global social on the App Store) that puts people in China and people abroad in the same app. Pick the country or region you want to meet, light up people you like, and if both light each other up within 12 hours you are connected one-to-one and can chat; messages and posts translate with one tap.

Bifrost is built for exactly that. People in mainland China download it from local app stores, people abroad get it from the App Store or Google Play, and it covers 25 countries and regions. Pick China, light each other up, and chat with one-tap translation.

Yes. Bifrost is listed on the App Store, Huawei AppGallery, and an official Android download page in mainland China and works there without a VPN or special setup. People abroad download it from the App Store or Google Play, and both sides meet on the same platform.

WeChat’s users are mostly in China and few foreigners use it; Facebook is used worldwide but is not accessible in mainland China. Both are mainly for people you already know. Bifrost is for meeting new people across that divide: recommendations by country, a connection only after mutual light-up, and one-tap translation.

No. Chat messages and posts in Discover translate with one tap, shown below the original. The app interface is available in English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

No. Everyone recommended to you is a real person. The app also has a separate Bifrost AI assistant for questions and writing help, and AI-generated content is clearly labeled.

Downloading and signing up are free, and light-ups and chats within the same country are free. Cross-border light-ups, creating group chats, more daily AI uses, and seeing all profile visitors are Bifrost membership benefits; the price is shown in the app before you buy, and membership does not auto-renew.

Lighting someone up says “I’d like to meet you.” If they light you up within 12 hours, you are connected one-to-one and can chat. Without a mutual light-up, no connection is made and they are not bothered.

Yes. On the companion screen, pick a country or region; it defaults to your own. You can choose from 25: Mainland China, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, China, Macao, China, United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Russia.

After connecting, two people can start a one-to-one seven-day journey: share daily to-do lists and progress to practice a language, study, or work out. When it ends, each person decides whether to continue for another seven days.

Before a mutual light-up only a translucent photo is shown. Clear photos unlock after a seven-day journey is completed.

The journey is always seven days; there is no 21-day journey. “21 days” refers only to the book publishing check-in, which requires checking in on 21 consecutive calendar days.

Bifrost is a cross-border social app for meeting people in other countries, practicing languages, and working toward goals together. It does not match by distance, photos stay translucent at first, and a connection needs a mutual light-up.

You can sign up from 25 countries and regions: Mainland China, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, China, Macao, China, United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Russia. Your country or region is chosen at sign-up and cannot be changed later.

Yes. Windows, macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), and Linux versions are available on this website, currently 1.1.0. Sign in by scanning a QR code with the phone app.

A connection needs a mutual light-up, and photos stay translucent before that. The current version does not request location permission or collect precise location, does not extract facial or other biometric data, and never receives card numbers or payment passwords because payments go through licensed third parties. You can report content, turn on youth mode, and delete your account in Settings.

Data for users in mainland China is stored on servers in China, and data for users in North America is stored on servers in the United States. Cross-region recommendations and chats are routed by each account’s home region. Users in the United States are covered by the U.S. Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

You can delete your account in the app’s Settings. Please save anything you need first.
